A high quality, character style bed and breakfast accommodation with a self-contained cottage on a rural 32 acre lifestyle block is modelled on early NZ working mens’ cottages.
Design challenges included exposure to strong south westerly winds, satisfying district plan controls and ensuring the development blended with the natural environment. Permanent earthy materials were used to establish a strong low maintenance structure anchored to the landscape. Local rocks, traditional style timber casement windows, feature fireplaces and demolition kauri front door contribute to the homestead design.
This home was completed in 2000.
